... Team History

The Coral Academy Robotics team was started in 2003 by a group of students who wanted to participate in FIRST robotics
competitions.
In 2003, our team members visited Silicon Valley and Arizona Regional Finals to meet the other team members and exchange
ideas for future competitions in 2003. After getting inspired by the event, with the help of school’s science
teacher, Mr. Acar, the team members started to form a team to participate in next year’s competition. In 2004, the team
got partnership through University of Nevada, Reno, Nevada NASA Space Consortium and some private organizations and
corporate in 2004. Our team successfully participated in Silicon Valley Regional in 2004. This season our team has a
partnership with NASA, Coral Academy of Science and some corporate sponsors.
In keeping with this vision, our team will have no boundaries - cultural, geographic, ethnic or otherwise. Our team is
made up of exceptionally bright high school students from across the Washoe County.
... Team Vision Statement
The singular and all-important goal of Coral Robotics: Robotics Education. With an ever-growing need for such skills in
the workplace, the Coral Robotics program will become increasingly indispensable. The guiding principals of Coral
Robotics are simple, but yet have proved to be so important:
- Provide a professionally guided technical experience
- Reach as many young people as possible with this vision
- Provide invaluable real-world experience
- Bring adults into the world of robotics
- Bind the community and participants with a sense of civic pride
- Bring local corporations together and integrate into community
- Make the program available to all
- Bring the vision of Dean Kamen and FIRST into Coral Robotics
Our team is student driven. This means the students are actively involved in every aspect of design and building. While
we rely heavily on guidance from our corporate engineers, we believe that students learn by doing. FIRST is about a
hands-on engineering experience. It is an opportunity for students to work with professionals in a real world setting. Our
goal is to create a robot the students know inside and out, built from the collective efforts of each member of the
team - students, corporate engineers and technicians. Accordingly, we are looking for corporate sponsors to guide and
mentor us through the design and building process, and to work along side us at the competitions. In short, we are
looking for a true corporate partner.
