Financial Aide |
Financial Aid consists of grants, scholarships, work study and loans. Students can apply for federal financial aid through the government, as well as, for scholarships from their university and other private institutions.
Grants: Money students do not have to repay.
Scholarships: Money students do not have to repay, usually granted on the basis of merit, special achievements or the student’s heritage.
Work Study: Money given to colleges by the government, used to pay students who work to earn it.
Loans: Money students borrow for the purpose of getting their education. This money accrues interest and must be paid back.
In order to apply for Federal Financial Aid all students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students can complete this form at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Please be aware that this is a FREE application for federal aid. If you do not go to the address specified, you may end up on a site that asks you to pay for their “help”. The FAFSA should be completed after Jan. 1st and before July 1st of your senior year. The closer to Jan. 1st that the application is completed the better, as there is only so much grant money to go around and it will be given on a first eligible first served basis.
Once the FAFSA is completed you will need to contact your university for their financial aid application. Each school has different financial aid processes and forms. Please contact each school you apply to directly so that you can insure you are completing all of the correct paperwork.
