School Environment |
A successful school environment is nurtured in a variety of ways. Teacher-student respect is developed, a
student-centered and supportive administration, and student viewpoints are elicited and valued. We also provide an
opportunity for growth in diverse clubs and numerous after school activities.
INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANCE
- CAS emphasizes individualized instructional assistance for students who have failed via traditional models.
- Small group, or one-on-one instructional settings,
- Using areas of strengths to enhance areas of weakness,
- Utilization of state of the art technology by both staff and students,
- A lesson plan format that requires how the instructor will ensure the skill is mastered, and if it is not, what
ways will the concept be re-taught.
EDUCATIONAL FEATURES
Coral Academy of Science offers many distinctive educational features including:
- Three state of the art computer labs
- A state of the art life sciences lab
- A state of the art physical sciences lab
- LCD projector and CCTV system equipped classrooms
- A small staff: student ratio of 12:1, with class sizes in Core Subjects not exceeding 24:1
- Team teaching and thematic units
- Advanced classes in Math, Science, English, and Social Studies
- Academic assessments performed prior to the first day of class, as well as throughout the year, to determine
baseline data, provide diagnostic information, and ensure progress
- In addition to standardized state mandated tests, CAS uses the Stanford 10 in the fall and spring to monitor the
students progress
- Fine arts classes emphasizing sculpture, sketching, relief, watercolor, and acrylic painting
- Numerous electives, including band, string, art, Spanish, Turkish, Japanese, advanced science, robotics, and
astronomy
- A comprehensive Physical Education program emphasizing physical development, team building, leadership skills, and
self-confidence
- Value centered learning opportunities using cooperative learning skills, leadership training, project management,
communication, presentation, personal integrity, reflection and self-development
- Spanish classes to promote cultural sensitivity and international awareness, and further high school credits
- Extracurricular activities to encourage personal growth, leadership potential, cooperative relationships, and
community spirit
- In and out of school competitions for developing academic, social, and behavioral skills in our students
PARENTAL AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Extensive parental and community involvement are encouraged in CAS:
- Well attended monthly Parent-Teacher Committee (PTC) meetings
- Monthly business meetings are set up where parents and interested individuals help the school in all aspects
including grant writing, expansion plans, student projections, marketing, etc.
- An active PTC provides materials and funds for special projects in the classrooms
- Parents volunteer in the lunchroom, chaperoning, and cosponsoring after school clubs, etc.
